Dr. Karletta Chief Is Awarded AISES “Professional of the Year”

Sept. 13, 2016

In September 2016, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) announced its Professional of the Year Award recipients. The AISES Professional of the Year Awards (categories include Executive Excellence, Technical Excellence, Most Promising Engineer or Scientist, Blazing Flame, and Professional of the Year) were established to recognize outstanding American Indian and Alaska Native professionals in science, technology, engineering, and math related disciplines. The “Professional of the Year” award went to the University of Arizona Superfund Research Program’s very own Dr. Karletta Chief (Community Engagement Core PI). This particular AISES award is presented for overall leadership and technical achievement.

Dr. Chief will be honored at the 2016 AISES National Conference that will take place November 10-12, 2016 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. AISES is a national, Native American nonprofit whose mission is to substantially increase the representation of American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, First Nations and other indigenous peoples of North America in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) studies and careers.

The UA SRP congratulates Dr. Chief!
