April 19, 2019

Dr. Mónica Ramírez-Andreotta, University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UA SRP) Research Translation Core Principal Investigator (PI), is now a co-host of Thesis Thursday at local radio station KCXI. Thesis Thursday is a weekly segment on KXCI at 91.3 FM (4:55 am, 11:55 am, 2:55 pm) that features discussing their undergraduate research. In 2018 and early 2019, Ramírez-Andreotta interviewed several SRP Trainees and these have been aired: Jesus Solis, Denise Moreno Ramirez, Lydia Jennings, Tania Rodriguez, Sarah Van Glubt, and Priyanka Kushwaha. All six talked about their research, why they are passionate about their field, their hopes and goals for the future and their favorite music. When Ramírez-Andreotta interviews bilingual students, she performs each interview in both Spanish and English. The show is popular because Ramírez-Andreotta said often student work is not highlighted enough, and it can be very encouraging to hear about the passion students have for their work. “Listeners get very excited when they hear young adults talking about what their goals are and their aims for the future,” Ramírez-Andreotta said. “And I think especially in this political climate, it’s very refreshing to hear students excited about research and moving forward.”
