Dr. Eric Betterton Awarded Distinguished Professorship

Dec. 2, 2013

University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UA SRP) investigator Dr. Eric Betterton has received the University Distinguished Professor award for 2013. An awardee is nominated by his peers and selected by a university-wide committee. Distinguished Professors are faculty who have a long-term commitment to undergraduate education and have made outstanding contributions at The University of Arizona. This includes employing the highest standards of teaching, as well as effective mentoring and advising skills, over a minimum of a ten-year period of time. In addition, a distinguished record of research, including publication in peer-reviewed journals, is required, and research scholarship must be incorporated into classroom learning.

Dr. Betterton is head of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and the Director of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics. Working in the laboratory and in the field, he is focused on “environmental pollutants, especially those found in the air and water that might affect people.” He is an investigator on UA SRP Project 8, characterization of wind-blown dust from mining operations.

The Distinguished Professor award was presented to Dr. Betterton at an Induction Ceremony in November, 2013. Please join us in congratulating him on this special honor!
