Superfund Research Program Annual Meeting 2014

Nov. 12, 2014

This year nine representatives from the University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UA SRP) attended the 2014 National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) SRP Annual Meeting, held November 12-14, 2014 in San Jose, CA. This national scientific meeting brought together Superfund scientists from academic institutions, NIEHS, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other relevant stakeholders.

UA SRP Community Engagement Coordinator Denise Moreno Ramírez served on the planning committee for the Research Translation and Community Engagement meeting, and chaired a well-received session on “Public Participation in Scientific Research.”

UA SRP Accountant Karla Nuñez served on the planning committee and as co-chair for several sessions in the Administrator’s meeting, which was also attended by UA SRP Program Coordinator Rocío Estrella. Moreno Ramírez also presented on “Working with Community Engagement Cores” in the Administrator’s meeting.

UA SRP Trainee Michael Stovern participated in the Key Results from Environmental Sciences and Engineering Science Session, co-chaired by long-time UA SRP collaborator Michael Gill, US EPA Region 9. The newly-minted Dr. Stovern presented his dissertation research, “Development of a dust deposition forecast model for a mine storage pile.”

In addition, Associate Director Clark Lantz attended the meeting, along with Research Translation Coordinator Sarah Wilkinson, post-doctoral Trainee Cara Sherwood, pre-doctoral Trainees Anastasia Sugeng and Adriana Ramos Ruíz, and Stovern and Moreno Ramírez, who all presented posters at the meeting.

It was another great opportunity to network with our SRP colleagues, and we are already looking forward to the 2015 SRP Annual Meeting!
