Trainee Success Stories: Dr. Janae Csavina

Aug. 5, 2012

University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UA SRP) trainee Janae Csavina earned her doctorate in August, 2012 and has moved to Boulder, CO, to begin a new position at the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON).  NEON is a continental-scale ecological observation system for gathering and examining data on ecological issues such as climate change, land use, and invasive species. As a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Scientist, Dr. Csavina is working in a calibration/validation laboratory to analyze and mitigate uncertainty of meteorological/ecological measurements.

So far, Dr. Csavina is enjoying her new position in the midst of high-quality research. She is learning how to use a variety of new methods and instrumentation to perform climate and ecological studies. Asked what impact she hopes to have in her new job, Dr. Csavina says, “I believe my perfectionism and attention to detail will prove useful in a QA/QC role. Being fresh from academia with some industry experience, I hope to bring a fresh perspective to research and methods at NEON.”

Dr. Csavina’s dissertation research, Metal and Metalloid Contaminants in Atmospheric Aerosols from Mining Operations, was performed in the UA SRP “dust group” led by investigators Dr. Eduardo Sáez and Dr. Eric Betterton. Please join the UA SRP in wishing Janae success in her latest endeavor!
