Trainee Success Stories: Dr. Matthew Narter

July 17, 2013

Dr. Matthew Narter, former University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UA SRP) trainee, has accepted a position with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). As an ADEQ hydrologist, he will be working at existing Superfund sites, as well as performing site investigations related to potentially-contaminated sites, in southern Arizona. Dr. Narter has been working as a hydrologist with Tucson Water since 2011, and is “excited to make the transition to ADEQ and continue focusing on contaminant fate and transport.”

Dr. Narter performed his graduate studies with Dr. Mark Brusseau (Project 6) in the Department of Soil, Water, and Environmental Science and graduated in December, 2012. His project entailed characterizing non-wetting fluid in natural porous media using synchrotron X-ray microtomography. He looks forward to applying the knowledge he gained working in Dr. Brusseau’s Contaminant Transport Group to difficult and complex problems in Arizona. Says Dr. Narter, “A goal of mine has been to have a career in which I can help protect human health and the environment. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to achieve this with ADEQ.”

Congratulations and best of luck in your new position, Matt!
