UA SBRP and Binational Center Participate in 2007 Arizona Science Teacher Symposium

April 28, 2007

On Saturday, April 28, 2007 the UA SBRP and U.S. – Mexico Binational Center for Environmental Sciences and Toxicology (Binational Center) participated in the Education Outreach Resource Expo section of the 2007 Arizona Science Teacher Symposium hosted by the BIO5 Institute at The University of Arizona (UA). The symposium offered K-12 teachers throughout Arizona a variety of hands-on professional development workshops, guest speakers and UA science education resources - all designed to enhance life sciences education in Arizona.

At this unique one-day event, the UA SBRP and Binational Center provided science teachers information regarding the mission and objectives of both programs, as well as educational materials regarding trichloroethylene and mine tailings (to download our informational/educational materials, please visit: http://www.superfund.arizona.edu/cores/research_translation_products.html or http://www.binational.pharmacy.arizona.edu/outreach.php).

In addition, the Binational Center's high school Environmental Health Photography Exhibition was on display for teachers to see various student perspectives on environmental health.

The 2007 Arizona Science Teacher Symposium at the UA was a great opportunity for the UA SBRP and Binational Center to distribute program materials and discuss, with teachers and other UA educators, how these programs can complement classroom learning now and in the future.
