UA SRP Director Receives Mentorship Award

May 10, 2017

On the evening of March 1, the 2017 Women of Influence awards were presented by Inside Tucson Business to honor the strong leadership of women in the community and the workplace. Award categories ranged from Community Service to Business Owner of the Year. Winners were announced at an Award Dinner at Casino del Sol Resort where more than 500 people from across Pima County gathered to celebrate this year’s awardees.

Dr. Raina Maier, Director of the University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UASRP), received an award in the Mentorship category. Maier was recognized for her wealth of experience and passion for education and in particular for promoting inclusion of women, underrepresented minorities, and first generation students. In addition to formal classroom teaching, she has mentored more than 100 graduate students during her career. Maier said of this honor: “One of the important aspects to mentoring students is their need to have access to support systems and networks when they encounter educational, personal, or family challenges. I know because when I entered graduate school my daughter was two years old”.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Maier and wishing her continued success!
