UA SRP Trainee Videos on You Tube

Aug. 15, 2012

University of Arizona Superfund Research Program (UA SRP) graduate trainees Paul Severson and Christopher Olivares were recently featured in 2-minute “elevator pitch” videos produced by the UA SRP. Paul describes his work with UA SRP investigator Dr. Bernie Futscher in the AZ Cancer Center, using cell culture models to study epigenetic changes induced by arsenic. Christopher discusses his research with UA SRP investigator Dr. Jim Field in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, using microorganisms to detoxify munitions wastes. The trainees also talk about their future goals and personal interests.

Paul Severson says of the experience, “Explaining a 4-year dissertation project in two minutes is no easy feat - usually I get 30-40 minutes for a scientific talk.  But hopefully this type of video pitch can increase awareness of arsenic exposure as a legitimate problem, and reassure viewers that a dedicated group of scientists is working to resolve it.”

The videos were filmed and edited by the UA SRP Community Engagement and Research Translation Cores, and are available on You Tube (click photos to view).
