UA SRP Wins at GPSC Student Showcase 2012

The Graduate & Professional Student Council (GPSC) Student Showcase took place on Friday, November 9, 2012.  The GPSC hosts the Student Showcase as the academic segment of the Homecoming weekend every fall on the University of Arizona Mall. Approximately one hundred students participate in this exhibition including both undergraduate and graduate students. UA SRP trainees won four different awards in the Student Showcase.

The Women's Chemists Group of the Southern Arizona section of the American Chemical Society recognized Corin Hammond and Lucia Rodriguez-Freire for their outstanding research. Corin Hammond presented: The effects of Plant Growth on Arsenic Speciation and Mobility in Ionr-Rich Mine Tailings. Lucia Rodriguez-Freire presented: The role of the Sulfur Cycle in Arsenic Biomineralization.

Under the “Agriclture and Environmental Sciences” category, Corin Hammond also won a second place.

Under the “Health Sciences” category Fei Zhao won a first place with his research entitled: Autophagy Requirement in an Arsenic-Transformed Bladder Cancer Model.
