‘Rising Leader’ Award-Winner Lydia Jennings Honored at 2018 AISES Leadership Summit

Lydia Jennings, UA SRP trainee, just won the 2018 American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Rising Leader Award. Jennings was selected for the award by 250 fellow students at the 2018 AISES Leadership Summit held March 15-17 in Alpine, California.
The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is a national, nonprofit organization founded in 1977 focused on substantially increasing the representation of American Indians and other indigenous peoples of North America in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) studies and careers.
Once a year, the “AISES Leadership Summit” brings together Native higher education students (undergraduate and graduate) and professionals to discover potential, offer strategies, improve learning, sharpen leadership techniques and build networks to better prepare them to attain jobs and careers in STEM fields.
Jennings research is focused on defining biogeochemical indicators of success or failure of the revegetation process on mine tailings and waste rock. She works with UA SRP Director Raina Maier and Center for Environmentally Sustainable Mining Director Julie Neilson.
