Dr. Monica Ramirez-Andreotta Promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure

Congratulations to Dr. Monica Ramirez-Andreotta who has been promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure at UArizona!

Dr. Ramírez-Andreotta leads the Integrated Environmental Science and Health Risk Laboratory in the Department of Environmental Science. She is the Research Translation Lead Investigator for the University of Arizona Superfund Research Center (UA SRC).  

Dr. Ramírez-Andreotta and her lab function under the philosophy that to successfully engage communities and students, it is essential to address critical environmental health problems identified by the community, and then work collaboratively through the problem-solving and research process.

She is committed to serving the community and building citizen science programs to increase public participation in environmental health research, developing low-cost environmental monitoring tools to improve exposure estimates, and designing effective risk communication and data report-back strategies to improve environmental health literacy.

"Her scientific approach is state-of-the-art, and it involves engaging directly with affected communities to identify critical environmental health related problems, and then working collaboratively with these communities through the problem solving and research process," said Dr. Jon Chorover, professor, and head of the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona. "Community-engaged scientific research is a growing field of endeavor, and Dr. Ramírez-Andreotta is on track to be one of its future leaders."
