Kelsey Graves wins SME Environmental Division Outstanding Presentation Award

June 1, 2022

Kelsey Graves, undergraduate Research Assistant in the Department of Environmental Science, working in UA SRC Project 5 under the direction of Dr. Julia Neilson and Dr. Raina Maier, won the SME Environmental Division Outstanding Presentation Award for her oral presentation at the SME Annual meeting in Salt Lake City in February 2022.

Graves’s talk was titled: “Characterizing Novel Bio-Inspired Glycolipid Surfactants for Mining Applications”. The Environmental Division selected just one presentation for this award from all presenters including students and professionals. There will be an official announcement in an upcoming Mining Engineering magazine.

Graves said, "I am very grateful for the opportunities I've had to present some of the research that our lab group has been working on. Science communication and engagement are necessary to develop innovative ideas that promote environmental sustainability."

Graves is expecting to graduate in December 2022 with a B.S. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Physical and Chemical Dynamics.

After graduating, she is planning to get more experience working at an environmental science lab and pursue a master’s in environmental science or environmental chemistry. When Kelsey is not studying or working in the lab, she enjoys camping, hiking, doing art, and spending time with her loved ones.

Congratulations on this award and much success in your future endeavors Kelsey!!
