Trainee Update: Annie McCawley

Annie McCawley was an MS student working under the direction of Dr. Raina Maier and Dr. David Hogan in the Department of Environmental Science. Her research focuses on exploring a green surfactant-based metal remediation and recovery technique. In 2022, Mc Cawley had an opportunity to present her research at multiple conferences:

  • Glycolipid based recovery of metals and rare earth elements,” a Poster Presentation at UArizona’s Center for Environmentally Sustainable Mining: Applied Industry Research and Information Sharing Forum; Nov. 3, 2022; Phoenix, Arizona.
  • Glycolipid surfactants as chemical precipitant agents for selective metal recovery,” an Oral Presentation at ENViSion at Earth Week 2022 at the University of Arizona; March 24, 2022; Tucson, Arizona.
  • Glycolipid based aqueous mining of metals and rare earth elements,” an Oral Presentation at Society of Mining Metallurgy and Exploration Annual Conference; Feb. 27-March 2; Salt Lake City, Utah.

Annie McCawley graduated in December 2022 and is now working as an Environmental Scientist for an engineering and consulting company in Tucson, Arizona. She will be participating in groundwater investigations, monitoring, and remediation projects – some of which will be at Superfund sites.
