UA SRC Trainees participate in SEES EarthWeek 2021
The University of Arizona Superfund Research Center (UA SRC) was well represented at the recent “EarthWeek 2021: Restore our Earth” virtual symposium, held from March 29 to April 2, 2021. Eight UA SRC Trainees presented their research at the symposium.
EarthWeek is an annual, student-led research symposium that brings together researchers from each department in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) at the University of Arizona.
SEES is made up of representatives from the departments of Environmental Science, Geosciences, and Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, the School of Geography and Development, and the Laboratory for Tree Ring Research. While each unit had individual activities planned, larger-scale activities were planned to bring together undergraduate and graduate students from all SEES departments.
During a part of the symposium, students had the opportunity to virtually present their research and compete for awards and cash prices. Congratulations to our Trainees who competed!
- Ma’in Zaid D. Alghzawi, a Trainee working at the Environmental Biogeochemistry Group and mentored by Dr. Jon Chorover, presented “Transformations of Arsenic and Toxic Metals in Mine Tailings Resulted from Weathering Reactions under Varied Climatic Conditions.”
- Alma Anides Morales, a Trainee from The Ramírez-Andreotta Integrated Environmental Science and Health Risk Lab and one of the event organizers, presented “Developing a Land Suitability Analysis for Green Infrastructure Placement in Ambos Nogales.”
