Dr. Karletta Chief named Inaugural Haury Program Endowed Professor

The University of Arizona Superfund Research Center (UA SRC) congratulates Dr. Karletta Chief who has been named the inaugural recipient of the Agnese Nelms Haury Program Endowed Professorship.

Dr. Chief has been an integral part of UA SRC since 2015, leading foundational efforts to develop educational tools, technical trainings, and informational materials that are culturally, linguistically, and regionally relevant for tribal communities. She is currently the co-lead of the UA SRC Community Engagement Core (CEC).

Her research and outreach in hydrologic sciences and Indigenous resilience address environmental health challenges that impact tribal communities, guided by community-based research principles. Over the years, her impactful work has led to the establishment of the Indigenous Resilience Center, where she serves as Founding Director.

Dr. Chief’s tireless dedication, innovation, and leadership continue to strengthen partnerships between the University of Arizona and Indigenous communities, advancing environmental health and resilience.
